Song: "Where's the Love?" by Trevor Hall.

I chose this song, because I believe that the ultimate goal for multicultural education is peace, acceptance, and love.  Sometimes, I feel like the topics about racism, prejudice, stereotype, etc. are brought up to often, but some people still have difficulties changing for the better. I think this song is appropriate to make people reflect on themselves and their relationship with others. This song can act as a reminder to be more aware of how to treat people even if they are different from us.
What other significant insight(s) have you gained and how will this insight impact your personal/professional life?

Personally, I grew up being the "different one."  I've always felt like no one could understand me as a person and that I was the one that always had to change. If I knew how to accept myself when I was younger, I wouldn't have had to spent so much time questioning my identity. I could've been the one to educate others that it was okay to be different.  One insight that I've gained is I can't expect people to just know.  Not every is like me and that is okay.  Not every one came from where I came from and that is okay. It's okay that people don't understand right away.  We all have room to grow and we all have something to teach others about. This insight will impact my personal/ professional life because if I ever felt out of place again, because of my culture I can always be the one to help others understand where I am coming from.  It's unnecessary to be a victim to people who are uneducated about culture.  If I can be the one to make the change, it could impact them positively and hopefully they can be better to others in the future.

How can multicultural education affect broader social issues that impact our society? (e.g. intercultural communication/relations, prejudice, stereotypes, crime & poverty rates, achievement gaps, etc.)

Multicultural education is the answer to social issues that impact our society. Students that were taught with multicultural education will understand the proper way to respond to social issues. Teachers who educate their students through multicultural education will impact how they live outside of the classroom. They will also understand that they can still achieve their goals and dreams regardless of where they come from. If a student is taught and understand that prejudice, stereotypes, and crime is wrong, they will be more likely to be a better person. If the teacher or instructor shows that they truly care and support the student, trust may be built. The student would accept guidance from the teacher if he or she trusts the teacher. There may be cases where the students are from homes that promotes these social issues, they may disregard what they are taught at school.  Overall, the student is his or her own person and will ultimately make his or her own decision for how to react during a situation that implies a social issue.

How does multicultural education reflect responsive teaching to help meet the academic needs of diverse student populations?

Responsive teaching is necessary with multicultural education. Teachers and instructors need to be aware of each student as individuals to make sure they are understanding what is being taught. It is important for the students to receive help with their individual needs.  They should also understand that it is okay to be different. A culturally responsive teacher will instill the importance of self- discovery to the student to help be their best self.  Teachers and instructors must take in consideration of the students' native language and primary culture. It's also important to have some involvement with their family to understand their upbringing and how they are affected by their life at home with their family. Responsive teaching also includes bringing the students' culture to the classroom. The student should understand that their culture is accepted.  It requires the teacher or instructor to be open minded and to view things differently from how they would normal see it in order to teach responsively.  By teaching responsively, multicultural education is applied.

What is multicultural education? What are some goals of multicultural education?

Multicultural education is a way of teaching that is effective and universal for students from all kinds of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. It includes being culturally responsive while teaching. Multicultural education exposes to everyone that diversity exists and it is okay for people to be different.

The goals of multicultural education includes having students accept and respect the differences of all all other students. Students should be their most unique self. Every student should become successful with their education regardless of their background. Multicultural education encourages students to learn cross-cultural communication. It also encourages students to engage in activities that address social justice issues and learn how to respond them. In addition with multicultural education, students are encouraged to learn about their own cultural group as well as the cultural groups that helped formed American society. Multicultural education intends to reduce prejudice, stereotype, and racism.
